I don’t swim against the stream

There are always trends I fucking hate. In the past it has been things like or piss me off
- Infinite scrolling
- Paging without updating urls
- Anything in a web apps you navigate to without having a url to it
- Having entire fucking sub-apps inside modals
- Having modals for dumb reasons
- Not letting me control / command click links to open in new tabs properly; as in either they don’t work at all or that even when I control click and it opens in the new tab the main tab still goes to that location
- When links only work when you click to open in new tab
- Tracking all over
Because I prefer to have money and eat I have made most of the bullshit above, except the bugs, those I’ve fixed a billion times without telling anyone. But I always let everyone know all the problems with it and refuse to be a part of any “praise” for implementing it.
I’ll do it, but not silently, and everyone knows how I feel about it.
Often a good thing when it blows up in UX / product owners face.
My approach to all this fancy machine learning crap that I refuse to call “artificial intelligence” because there is no link between intelligence and statistics is to use it where it is useful. But I’ll still call the duck for a duck, and I’m not quiet about all the bullshit related to it.
The funny thing about using these tools is that they are really useful like 75% of the when you’re good at asking questions. Something a lot of good experienced software developers are good at. But bad ones or inexperienced ones suck at.
