Apple suck at non deterministic software

2025-04-01 00:00

Where Apple are really good at software is anywhere they can just grind on the UX and reliability until it makes sense and works great.

Less so (most of the time) when you need to make sure it works well in all kinds of data combinations or network situations.

For example how terrible the Shortcuts app handles many Shortcuts or ones with a lot of blocks. Especially on macOS.

Or how bad MobileMe was and iCloud have been in periods from Europe (and I presume in the rest of the would outside of North America).

This is kind of the same problem you have with AI.

You have have non-deterministic part in there. Like networks or LLMs. Apple have never been that great at it, and they kind of requires more how Google and friends are doing constant updates all the time instead of Apples big monolithic updates.
